The general rule of thumb is that you should expect to spend at least 5% of the current value of your home but no more than 10%. And although there are numerous guidelines, estimators and worksheets available to you from us and others, ultimately how much you spend on a remodeling project is up to you.
First, ask yourself a few questions. There are no right or wrong answers here, but the answers will help you determine an appropriate budget. Think about why you are remodeling? If you’re selling your home, you might spend closer to the 5% or less depending on how much you want to do. If you’re planning to stay another 20 years, then 10% might not be enough to get you the kitchen of your dreams.
If you don’t think you can really zero in on a budget, don’t worry. We have listed a few budgeting guidelines here that you might find useful. And if that doesn’t do the trick, than you can contact a Reico designer to get help.
